Hello! Welcome to Day 1 of my themed days. :)
In the October 2006 General Conference, there was a quote from one of the talks that has really stuck with me. It was by Elaine S. Dalton, and her talk was called "Look Toward Eternity."
The part that really struck me, and has stayed with me is this:
"Always live in such a way that when you need the Lord's blessings, you can call upon Him and receive them because you are worthy." He said: "There will come times in your life when you will need immediate blessings. You will need to live in such a way that they will be granted—not out of mercy but because you are worthy."
She was quoting President Gordon B. Hinckley. Please read the talk (I've linked it above) to get the whole message. This quote has really reminded me of the way I need to live and the things I need to do. I NEED to read my scriptures daily, I NEED to be consistent in my prayers, I NEED to pay my tithing and keep the commandments. When I start to slack off, I try to keep this quote in my mind and keep my life in order. It also reminds me of something my singles ward Bishop once told me. He said, "Katie, reading your scriptures is like eating. It's like breathing. You have to do it to survive." And oh how that is really true! When I am not reading my scriptures consistently, I start to feel spiritually starved, and like there is something missing from my life. And I know there is something I need to change or improve upon.
I know that in order to receive all of the blessings that Father in Heaven has in store for me, I have to live my life in such a way that I am worthy to receive them. By keeping the commandments and living the best way I can, I know that I will be able to receive all that the Father hath in store.

Thank you for such a wonderful message!! And I know of course who your bishop was and how awesome he was. I will take this as one of my oft-thought about things. I also like President Hinckley's thought (not sure from when but I had it written out and posted in my dorm room) that the Lord will have a humble people, whether they humble themselves or He humbles them, He will have a humble people. Reminds me that I need to humble myself because often the way the Lord humbles isn't too fun!
Great quote! Thanks for sharing it.
